Transporting Children with Disabilities and Medical Conditions

The course will help you answer the question: How can you lead and implement a best practice family-centred approach to supporting the vehicle transport needs of children with disabilities and medical conditions?

• importance of good documentation.

It also introduces The MACA Guide, a best practice prescribing tool, and explains how it can help with embedding safe transport into day-to-day practice.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Engage with the latest research in the field of safe motor vehicle transport for children with disabilities and medical conditions
• Develop relevant knowledge and understanding to strengthen your practice and leadership in this area
• Apply an evidence-based approach to assessing and prescribing for the vehicle transport needs of children with disabilities and medical conditions
• Identify strategies to embed motor vehicle transport planning in day-to-day practice.

The first training course of its kind in Australia, this course has been developed by Mobility and Accessibility for Children and Adults Ltd (MACA) with funding from the Australian Government Department of Social Services.

It includes contributions from esteemed experts in child restraint research, health, road safety as well as leading national suppliers of car seats for children.

The training also draws on the lived experiences of families across Australia and is deeply informed by their transport challenges and experiences.

The course is primarily aimed at allied health professionals. However, the course will also be of interest to government agencies, road safety practitioners and organisations with responsibility for transporting children with disabilities and medical conditions in motor vehicles.

Transporting Children with Disabilities and Medical Conditions is a self-guided course which you can sign up to at any time and complete at your own pace.

The course provides nine hours of CPD and participants receive a certificate of completion.

No. As the course is self-paced, you choose how long you take to complete it. All participants who have enrolled have ongoing and unlimited access to the course content, even after completion.

The course is delivered through online platform, FutureLearn and facilitated by MACA's senior leadership team. It includes videos from experts, interactive opportunities to share ideas and join in discussions and weekly tests.

Upon successfully completing the course, you’ll receive a certificate of completion, which can be credited toward CDP points (9 hours). You’ll also receive a free copy of the MACA Guide.
